Touch of Fire

She's now the target of revenge, and the one man she has pushed out of her heart is the one she needs to help her survive. Will Kat touch the fire she once knew, even if it means revisiting a painful memory?

SRR GRADE:  B

In her Torrid Teaser duo Mila Ramos uses a deft pen to tell two outstanding tales about love lost and rediscovered after personal trials. In Smoldering Ember, Cassandra Vance endured an extremely traumatic divorce from her husband several years prior to the start of the book, and now receives an invitation to the opening of his new building. Smoldering Ember explains Cassandra's feelings as she relives their marriage and the trauma she experienced during their separation and break-up. As readers, Ms. Ramos allows us to feels Cassandra's pain over Ethan's alleged infidelity, and the heartbreak of their subsequent split. This is a very emotional story, however the author does a very good job of balancing the light to remind us this is after all a romance novel.

In the final story in the duo, Touch of Fire, Katherine O'Brien is a part of the Witness Protection Program when she finds herself once more targeted by her ex-boyfriend Jared. Apparently he has escaped from prison and has singled her out for revenge, causing the FBI to arrange protection for her. Much to Kat's dismay, her new FBI bodyguard happens to be her former fiancé Ben Macdermott. As we see, Kat has trust issues being a victim of domestic abuse. Ms. Ramos is very adept at handling such a sensitive subject, without being overly dramatic or heavy-handed. Ben and Kat do have their "trials and tribulations" before getting their much deserved happy ending, however they do finally get the end they deserve. Torrid Teaser 44 is an entertaining novel, both stories able to provide the reader with hours of enjoyment.
