Treasure Found,
the historical romance by author Cheryl A. Cornell, is a gothic love story
set on the shore of Ocracoke Island. It is a hauntingly beautiful romance
and one that could easily have been a full length book instead of a short
story.
Edward Ormond did not expect to find any of the cottages inhibited when he
came to the southern tip of Ocracoke Island. His curiosity peaked
when he saw smoke coming out of a chimney. It didn't take him long to find
the cottage and the woman who is living in it.
Physically and emotionally scarred, Zarinda Prescott abides alone in the
Prescott cottage during the month of February. For reasons that do
eventually become known, Zarinda is a kind soul with a sister who is the
opposite of her in every way. Her father is afraid of Zarinda’s sister and
has become a shell of himself since his wife died.
Edward is instantly taken with Zarinda’s spirit and he knows that she is the
one for him. He first has to deal with Zarinda’s father and sister and that
is going to prove to be harder than he anticipated. While he deals with
Zarinda’s family, a deep dark family secret emerges and threatens to change
the way that she and her family have lived.
Treasure Found is a very well written romance. Zarinda is a
fascinating character and it was easy to sympathize with how she had to live
her life. Edward is a very likable hero who seems to have this dangerously
quiet air about him. The characters were well developed as was the plot and
everything worked together to make this short story a wonderful read. I
look forward to Cheryl A. Cornell’s next release.
