Spellbound -
Stories of Mischief and Mayhem by these talented authors: AE Rought, HS Kinn,
Katrina Strauss, Candice Gilmer, Sabrina Luna and Ivana Peters is a
perfect addition to your celebration of Halloween. Even though it
was released last year by Aphrodite's Apples, there's no reason not to
read this anthology this year and let these short stories scare and turn
your on at the same time!!
Spellbound
open up with AE Rought's Past Midnight. This
story is really scary! I loved it! It's a gold old fashioned
ghost story and a perfect way to begin this anthology.
Rought tells the story of a woman going back to her grandmothers house
in the woods where she would sit as a child and listen while her
grandmother warned her about not going into the woods. Now as
adult she goes into the woods, into the house.... and you'll just have
to read this story to see what happens.
Candice Gilmer's contribution to this anthology, Unholy Night,
is a romantic paranormal story that I can definitely see turned into a
series. The story takes place on Halloween night and centers on
Marissa Van Dyke and the handsome stranger she meets at a party.
Sparks fly instantly between Marissa and Neil Drigan and after an
incident with her ex-boyfriend at the party, Neil takes her home where
the have their own Halloween celebration between the sheets.
However, Marissa has a sinking suspicion that Neil is more than just
what he says he is and she thinks that he may be a werewolf! After
their night, Marissa doesn't hear from Neil however, she does learn a
few things about him and others like him through her friend. Just
a great story and one of my favorites from this anthology.
The Spirits
of Squirrel Hollow by Ivana Peters is next. This is
another really scary ghost story! After listening to stories told
around a campfire, a group of friends decide to shrug off the scary
story that surrounds The Old Fisher House and plan a night there with
their girlfriends. Not a really smart thing to do, since it seems
that the story which involves the old house may be laced with more truth
than fallacy. A very good story that will give you goose
bumps.
Sabrina Luna's
contribution to Spellbound is called Aphrodesia.
This story focus on the Dawn and the magical vile perfume that was
given to her by an old lady off the streets. What happens to Dawn
when she uses some of the perfume makes this story a very sexy read!
Connacht the
Immortal--a tale of the Supernaturals by H.S. Kinn is the only story
in this anthology that I just didn't like. Although it was well
written, I just had a bit of a hard time following this story since it
takes place in many different time periods and the plot is a bit
intricate. This is a perfect example of a short story that really
should have been much longer.
The last story in
Spellbound is Katrina Strauss' Grave Desires.
I really enjoyed this story and I think it's the perfect end to
this anthology. Grave Desires is sweet love story
about a lover coming back from the grave and having just one more night
with his beloved. Just a great story and one that I didn't want to
end! Aside from Unholy Night, Grave Desires
is my other favorite story.
Spellbound -
Tales of Mischief and Mayhem has something
for everyone. This is a very entertaining anthology which consists
of six short stories which are all well written and is guaranteed to get
you in the mood for some of your own mischief and mayhem this Halloween.
