Synopsis:

Lizzy would give it all back just to hear her mother's voice one more time... the house, the furniture...even the money. Regardless, her heartless stepfather is determined to take what he feels is rightfully his. Handyman, Adam Woodward rides into Lizzy's life and vows to keep her safe, but is it enough to stop the cold, callous determination of Ben Stokes?

Smiling Eyes is what our main characters have for each other from the first time they meet.  Lizzy and Adam are two of the sweetest characters you will come across, and Adelle Laudan shows us how you can find something wonderful in the midst of a horrible situation.  She does an excellent job of letting us peak into the lives of Adam and Lizzy and find out who they are.

Lizzy has had a very sheltered life even with the exposure to her ruthless step-father.  The love she has always gotten from her mother has always insulated her.  The only thing she loves more in the world is her music, until she gets close to Adam.

Adam is the town’s handyman and has always admired Lizzy but due to his nervousness around women has never gotten up enough courage to speak to her.  This is all changed when Lizzy’s mom is killed in a horrific accident and Lizzy comes to him for help in fixing up a new place to live.

These two characters make you feel good about life just reading the story.  Adam is the most wonderful caring man imaginable. Lizzy can’t help but all in love with him and his caring ways.  He shows her that all men are not like her step-father and teaches her what love is.

I really enjoyed Smiling Eyes by Adelle Laudan.  It was a very fast paced read with some suspense thrown into this sweet contemporary book.  Lizzy’s step-father is a horrible and almost ruthless character – just oozing evil.  But Adam is definitely the knight in shining armor to Lizzy’s damsel in distress and you know that good has to win out over evil.   I highly recommend this charming book you won’t be disappointed.
