I can honestly say
that I’ve never read a book like Sans Regret. Beautifully
done, it isn’t for the faint of heart. The book has passages of the
retelling of abuse of the heroine by her deceased husband and his guests.
During his lifetime,
the Count of Oakhurst had a secret location where the most illicit and
deviant sexual acts could be performed. He named it Sans Regret and
only those that moved in certain circles and by very selective invitation
only, would a person be allowed to enter the gates.
After the Count
passed away, all the parties stopped. But for Caroline, the Dowager
Countess, the horrors and atrocities done to her return in her nightmares.
She doesn’t feel much of anything anymore, learning to shut herself off
years ago to be able to bear the abuse.
But what she does
want is revenge. The man that put her in the hell she now lives in, she
wants to give him a taste of what her life was like on a daily basis. With
careful planning, she kidnaps the man she holds responsible, James Hardison,
the Marquis of Worthan from a party. Because the Marquis ruined her sister,
Caroline had been given to the Duke for the advancement her family coveted.
James is confused and
angry when he awakens in a room with bars on the windows. When his kidnapper
tells him who she is, he admits to himself that at one time, he’d wanted to
be a guest at Sans Regret, just not in the capacity he is now. And
when he learns why he’s there, he swears his innocence.
As he learns the
horrors of what actually went on there, he begins to see Caroline with new
eyes. Slowly he finds the key to the inner woman she’s hidden deep inside,
while at the same time, falling in love with her.
When a truth comes to
light, Caroline’s inner woman breaks through for the first time in years.
Knowing what she must do, she rebuilds the walls that James had torn down
and had him sent back to London, closing Sans Regret forever.
But all can’t be
forgotten. James isn’t going to let Caroline go without trying to make her
see reason. But no matter where he turns, and who he asks he can’t find her.
It’s only with the faint hope from one of the employees he finds from
Sans Regret that he possibly can find her. But what he finds, changes
everything.
Ms Gains pulls you
into the world of her mind and doesn’t let go. You’ll feel the pain, share
the tears Caroline does, the lightness of hope and love as it slowly begins
to take over the darkness that consumes Caroline’s soul. The excitement as
Caroline feels her first taste of passion and the raw heat of desire as she
and James are consumed by their feelings. Well worth the read, and
unforgettable.
