Saint by T.L. Gray is a very powerful tale of romantic
suspense. From the very first page we are dragged along with this story
of the struggle to stay alive and "do the right thing." Ms.
Gray certainly knows how to build suspense and we are never really on
solid footing throughout, always waiting for the next shoe to drop.
Maria thinks she is doing what is best, trying to reclaim her brother's
good name. Convinced that only with testifying and bringing down the drug
king Benito Juarez and his associates will help her accomplish that, she
finds herself in a deep dark hole. No where is safe for her anymore, and
no one around her is safe either.
When the one man she trusts at the DEA decides he has to "stash
her" until the trial he leaves her with retired Colonel Seth Harris.
Ornery, mean and determined to keep his distance from "the package"
he calls for reinforcements. He and his team do all they can to keep Maria
safe from one attack after another. Meanwhile Seth realizes that Maria
as awakened feelings he thought were long since buried.
I really enjoyed Saint. The story didn’t drag
anywhere, and I was kept guessing until the end. If nothing else this
story shows us that truth and justice are not necessarily the same thing,
and that we can try to do what's right but in the long run it might not
make a difference. Sometimes all you can do is try to keep yourself in
one piece and keep the nightmares away. I definitely recommend the Saint,
but be prepared for edge of your seat suspense and comic relief where
you least expect it.
