Synopsis:
Fearing retaliation from the Mob boss she ratted on to
the Feds, Sabrina Marconi knows she has to disappear. When she finds an
employment offer for a cook on a cattle ranch in the middle of nowhere, she
jumps at the chance and changes her name to Laura Marshall. She doesn't
expect to have a boss who makes her heart flutter, or to have to compete
against two other women for the position.
Caleb Kirkpatrick is bored. When his cook leaves the ranch, he sees a
reality-style competition for the position as a fun way to break up the
daily monotony his life has become. He invites three women to the ranch,
hoping one will stand out. Laura does that and she can cook in the kitchen,
but he wonders what she can brew up in the bedroom.

Ranch Hideout by
Julia Daniels is a well written contemporary romance. I would easily give it
a recommended read! I enjoyed the characters, the plot, the intelligent
dialogue and the ever present sexual tension between the two main
characters. Julia Daniels wrote a very satisfying romance.
Caleb Kirkpatrick runs the Morning Glory Ranch. He’s on the lookout for a
cook who can satisfy his men’s appetites. He reluctantly agrees to his
brother’s idea to run a reality television type of contest to find the
perfect cook. At his ranch ends up being three women vying for the chance to
become the cook for the Morning Glory. The first contestant, Angel, is out
to win using any means possible, the second contest, Phyllis, is an ex-nun
looking for a husband and the third contestant is on the run from the mob.
Sabrina Marconi, or as everyone at the ranch knows her by her new alias,
Laura Marshall, is on the run from the mob in Chicago. There in Chicago she
runs an Italian restaurant, so she figures it won’t be difficult to prepare
meals for the ranch hands on this Nebraska ranch. She doesn’t anticipate the
attraction that arises between her and Caleb.
I really like Caleb; he’s one hunky cowboy that I’m sure can fill out a pair
of Levi’s with no problem! He and Laura are good together even though they
had their fair share of trepidation towards each other. Laura was a comfort
to Caleb’s young son and even a sort of companion to his mother.
While the story seemed to run smoothly and Caleb and Laura were really
getting along, there was still the fact that Laura was running away from the
mob and that issue had to be resolved. However, the ending was pleasing and
everything was wrapped up nicely.
Ranch Hideout by Julia Daniels is a good read and one that I would have no
problem recommending to romance readers.
