Synopsis:

The Scrolls of Cachaen.

Remembered only as legend, these writings gathered by an obscure sect of wizards were hidden because of the diabolical forces they could unleash from the netherworld. Lost for eight millennia, the resting place of the scrolls is accidentally discovered by Xavier D'Shagre. Wounded and dying, the sorcerer seeks to possess the writings to restore his waning magic. Revenge fires his hatred, lit by Morgan Saint-Evanston, the assassin who murdered Xavier's beloved wife, Nisidia.

Xavier vows he will not rest until his enemy is dead.

The sorcerer's search for the scrolls is discovered by an unlikely source: Julienne Blackthorne. Believed dead, her body was tossed into a charnel room. Alive amongst the reek of the battle dead, she seeks to escape her hellish incarceration. Time is against her, for she carries the embryo of a vampiric daemon that will consume her if it is not fed human blood. Julienne must escape Xavier's dungeons and find Morgan, her last hope for survival in the realm of Sclyd.

SRR GRADE:  A+

The Price of Eternity, second in the Keepers of Eternity series, is even more haunting than the first book, The Keepers of Eternity.  We continue on with the story of Morgan, Julienne and their adversaries Megwyn and Xavier.  Where Keepers left off this picks right up, and we find Morgan and Julienne braving their way into the heart of Sclyd.

Morgan and Julienne are captured and taken to Xavier’s lair.  Julienne experiences evil here unlike anything she could imagine and when she is attacked by a vamipiric daemon Morgan is convinced she is lost to him forever.  In fit of near madness Morgan kills his captors and escapes, but has further guilt upon his soul now that he believes Julienne to be dead.  It isn’t until he’s lost her that he realizes how much she means to him.

There are so many twists and turns in The Price of Eternity that you will be breathless.  Once again Devyn Quinn weaves her spell and keeps us at the edge of our seats until the very last page.  We are rewarded with the relationship which grows between Morgan and Julienne while horrified by what they must go through to stay together while trying to bring peace to Sclyd.  Will they be able to accomplish this?  Maybe – or maybe not but they are willing to give up their lives trying.

I haven’t read a more intense book in a long while.  In The Price of Eternity my emotions were rung through the wringer and I couldn’t have enjoyed it more.   Ms. Quinn continues the character and world building she started in the first novel and we see even further into the minds of Morgan and Julienne and Xavier and Megwyn.  I highly recommend this series but warn you that you will be haunted by this one in particular and shouldn’t be surprised to find tears in your eyes.  Once again I suggest you follow Morgan and Julienne on their dangerous journeys while they deal with their deepest fears, their new found love and learn the true price of eternity.
