Synopsis:
Graduate
student Levisa Harris is focused on finishing her Master's thesis on Baltimore
dialects and only needs one more volunteer to complete her study. After
a homecoming game, she meets Sam Parker, a handsome man with an interesting
accent. But he's not interested in being a "guinea pig." An
accounting major from the poor side of town, Sam soon finds out that his
"Bawlamerese" is getting in the way of his career. Swallowing
his pride, he agrees to be in Levisa's study in exchange for free lessons.
A dream job at a big accounting firm is within his reach, but only she
can teach him proper speech—in four months! Little does Levisa know
that tutoring Sam will lead to passionate private lessons that take her
breath away and teach her heart and body to speak the language of love.

A cute take on My Fair Lady, Pigmalion is fast paced and
very enjoyable. Our heroine is much nicer than Henry Higgins ever was and
our hero well he’s just a doll. Sharon Buchbinder takes the theme
and twists it around so that our heroine is the speech specialist working
on her masters degree and our hero needs help to get the job of his dreams
which means he has to get rid of his accent.
Levisa needs one more person for her study to complete her work and graduate.
When she first meets Sam she knows he’d be perfect. Only one problem
-- Sam doesn’t want any part of her help.
Sam’s friend Chip decides that he wants a relationship with Levisa
and she can’t seem to get rid of him so she finally agrees to going
for coffee. When she realizes he’s even more of a jerk than she
thought she tries to get away and manages to fall down the steps of the
coffee store, which is where Sam finds her. He helps her up and gets her
help and then disappears. But Levisa has his coat and when he comes to
get it he asks if she’ll still give him the speech lessons.
Pigmalion is a wonderful story of growth and reinforces
the old adage that if you try hard enough and want something badly enough
you can have anything. Definitely give this one a try, but remember “the
rain in Spain stays mainly on the plane!”
