One night after finishing up the day researching her
dissertation on women’s impact on the American Revolution, Kaitlyn McCann,
walks through a fog and finds herself back in time, living through the
period she was just researching. Captain Gabriel O’Connor mistakes her for a
spy he is there to pick up.
Only You has one of my favorite things, a modern
woman meeting a man from the past. The scandalized male faced with a
liberated, educated female. Ms. Glenn handles the realization by Captain
O’Connor that this woman is different well. Both Kaitlyn and Gabriel are
entirely engaging characters and often I found myself laughing at the
misunderstandings caused by their period induced situations. A lot of time
travel romances fall apart when facts conflict with story. To a lesser
degree than some, this one does as well but I chalk that up more to the
length than Ms. Glenn’s research, as evident as their terms for the female
genitalia. While this is a minor detail it does indicate the time spent
researching. As a history buff I appreciate her thoroughness. It is these
minor inconsequential details that keep the reader in the story and totally
suspends their disbelief in the plot device of time travel.
That however, is not the only reason to add this book
to your must buy list. Ms. Glenn deftly handles the strictures and morals of
the Revolutionary War, humanizes historical figures and weaves a story of
love overcoming all barriers, including time.
