Synopsis:

Fleeing New York City after being humiliated by her ex-boyfriend, Jessica Miller returns to her small hometown in Paradise, Texas to start over again—literally. Everything is the same, right down to still lusting after her high school crush—the boy who went away never knowing how she felt.

Alex Gray, a prestigious advertising agent in L.A., only came back to Paradise on business. He didn’t expect to see Jessica, nor did he expect to feel an attraction to his best friend from high school. She ignites his passion like no other woman, while at the same time compels him to care for and protect her.

She knows once they cross the friendship line, there’s no going back. Will Alex be worth risking her heart for? Or will she cower back and let him slip through her grasp yet again?

SRR Grade: A

Lexie Davis penned an emotionally touching and very romantic short story called Loving Arms.  I loved the friends turned lovers theme and Davis did a fantastic job handling the delicate transition from strictly platonic to romantic.  For a short story, Loving Arms really packs an emotional punch!

Jessica and Alex are so perfect together.  Jessica just moved back to her hometown after a humiliating break up and as she’s working her job in the diner, Alex, her old high school crush, returns to town and walks through the door.  From the moment they are reunited, they begin to heat up the pages of this book!  It’s not just a purely physical relationship for them; there is tenderness, caring and an all around respect that they have for each other that will inevitably make their new romance work.

Aside from their new physical relationship, Jessica is also dealing with the news that her father’s cancer has returned and his health is diminishing.  Alex is there for her through the whole sad ordeal and that alone makes him a great hero in my opinion.  There’s a very touching scene at the end of this story where Alex finds Jessica’s journal and reads it.  It was a very moving ending to a story that has a lot of heart.

Lexie Davis is an author that you want to keep an eye on.  I very much enjoyed her new contemporary romance, Loving Arms and I look forward to reading more of her works in the future.
