Despite the curse, he finds affection he's never experienced before — as Vicki's temporary pet. But, for a few hours each night, Stefan reverts to human form and sets out to seduce Vicki. What happens when a woman scorned turns out to be a witch with a little too much power, and a strong belief in the saying "all men are dogs?" Nothing good for the hero of  Margaret L. Carter's Love Unleashed. Stefan Rigatos has lived a carefree, love `em and leave `em existence up to the point when Diana Morrigan decides he needs to pay for ending his brief affair with her daughter. She casts a spell turning him a Saint Bernard however, unknown to her the spell only works during the day. At its casting, Stefan counteracts the spell, seeking aid and protection subconsciously forging a connection with Vicki Lindstrom who he met months ago at a veterinarian's office.

Love Unleashed is a charming story that manages to both tell an amusing tale and deliver a moral message at the same time. Ms Carter has fun with the Stefan's struggle to hide his canine identity from Vicki, get to know her as a human, and all the while still try to stay clothed and not get arrested. Vicki turns out to be the perfect person to harbor Stefan's new alter ego, Sirius. Although going through her own relationship troubles, having just left her boyfriend Phil, she feels a natural empathy for Sirius and will not allow Diana to harm the dog. Ms. Carter emphasizes Vicki wariness of Stefan by having their physical encounters occur in a dream state, which allows the reader to see the poignancy in their relationship as it becomes more physical. Stefan has his fears as well, and in the end, everyone must make some sacrifices to obtain what they really desire. I truly enjoyed this story, and as such would recommend it to any fan of a "true" romance.
