Synopsis:

Doctor Rikki Kinn is a virus hunter - one of the best - working in the Congo for the CDC. But when mercenaries attempt to kidnap her in order to prevent an investigation into a new and deadly plague, her boss calls in a favor from the men at Dirk & Steele...

Africa is Amiri's home, where he was raised to race as a cheetah, to wake with the sun. It is also a land of lingering nightmare, where he was kidnapped and experimented upon. Now, against his better judgment, Amiri has been asked to return to his homeland by his colleagues in Dirk & Steele - men who are friends and brothers, who like himself are more than human.

He must protect a woman who is the target of murderers, who has unwittingly involved herself in a conflict that threatens not only the lives of millions, but Amiri's own soul...and his heart.

SRR GRADE: A+

A year ago I came across a new writer, Marjorie M. Liu who had written a vampire romance in the Crimson City series from Dorchester Publishing A Taste of Crimson.  I fell in love with her style and ability to create a complex plot that pulled the reader along with her characters. I immediately set out to find more books by this talented writer, and discovered her Dirk and Steele series.

The latest in the series is The Last Twilight. As with each of the Dirk and Steele series the world is the backdrop, this one in the wilds of Africa.  Ms. Liu’s strength is in her settings and characters you care about and hold your breath as each dark twist takes them deeper into the lion’s mouth.

Amiri, a cheetah shape-shifter, is forced back to Africa to protect Rikki Kinn from an unknown danger. A victim of kidnapping and torture in the second book in the series, Shadow Touch, Amiri finds in Rikki a kindred spirit who has been through her own trials, some as painful as his own.

I cannot recommend this book or series highly or strongly enough. If you want to lose yourself in a paranormal series, pick up any Dirk and Steele novel, but don’t miss The Last Twilight.
