Synopsis:
A gothic mansion in the middle of nowhere seemed the
perfect place to escape her humiliating past and lick her wounds. Rumors of
a ghost and mysterious deaths should inspire her writing. But Delores Hunter
finds more than rumors. Deadly secrets hide in the dark.
Irresistible Morgan Smith sends shivers of fear and desire through her body.
He conceals nearly everything from her. She shouldn't want him. But when
vampires attack at night, he rises to protect her.
If only he'd let her touch him, but tender wounds tear open. Horrifying
creatures stand between them. If Morgan and Delores can't conquer their
demons they may lose each other forever.

When describing Healing
Wounds different and unusual equates to refreshing and unforgettable.
This is an exceptional re-telling of the vampire tale with a contemporary
spin. The characters are all engaging and captivating, some more horribly
fascinating than the others, with even the immortals showing human-like
emotions and flaws.
The story begins with Delores Hunter buying a house because she wants to be
scared. She doesn't seem unbalanced, but maybe we are supposed to think
she's a little crazy – would a "normal" person want noises to startle her,
shadows to make her jump and everything to keep her from sleeping at night?
All that and more happens to Delores when she buys Hunter House and it only
gets worse when she hires Morgan Smith as her assistant on a whim. We go
through this incredible story with these two interesting characters as they
inhabit this strange house. They seem to stay locked inside, only
occasionally venturing out into an equally odd little town, frequently
battling groups of vampires as they attack.
Ms Gilfoy does a great job of keeping the reader tied to her characters
emotionally: you jump at shadows with them and feel their pain when
rejected. I especially liked how she built the suspense slowly, I was never
sure until the middle of the book who was the vampire and who was not,
certainly not based on the vampire-hunter body count. Slowly, Ms. Gilfoy
introduces a number of interesting secondary characters: Charles Henley, the
lecherous comic relief, Bissette Silva the tiny terror who manages to boss
everyone around, Tamara the evil vampire queen and Gordon Hunter the maker
of all the lesser vampires and quite possibly a ghost.
I would recommend this book to any fans of gothic or horror as well as
romance just make sure you leave the lights on when you go to sleep at
night.
