In Final Words by Teri Thackston we meet Emma St. Clair.
She is confused and worried for her sanity after dying in the emergency
room. While she was injured in a hit and run accident, her co-worker and
friend was killed – which added guilt into the mix as well. Ms.
Thackston knows how to pile on the pressure and she does it very well.
From the beginning we realize that both the hero and heroine are tormented
souls, who while going through hell need to come out the other side healed
enough to give in to their feelings for each other.
Emma is a medical examiner, she loves her job, but it was just a job.
That is until after the accident and she starts seeing dead people. Soon
she realizes she can help solve the mysteries of their deaths, but how
can she pull that off without looking guilty?
Enter Detective Jason MacKenzie, wallowing in guilt over the hit and
run death of his sister which he has been unable to solve; he has built
a wall around himself. He has a history as a womanizer but those days
are long gone. Or so he thinks until he meets Emma. Then feelings he never
realized he could have come to the surface. When she confides in him about
her strange powers can he bring himself to trust her or will he think
she is crazy?
Final Words has a very involved plot, with lots of sub-characters
weaving in and out of the story. At times it can be a little hard to follow
who is who but that doesn’t stop you from enjoying the roller coaster
ride you are on until the last page. If you like your romantic suspense
shaken but not stirred, served with a side of paranormal you definitely
won’t want to pass up Final Words.
