Synopsis:
For centuries the dragon has protected the village. Each year a new woman
is chosen by lottery from among the unmarried women to appease
him by mating with him. Gabriella hates the idea of being chosen, not just
because she loves Jason, but because the man who is also the dragon has been
lusting after her for years and she wants nothing to do with him.
Her worst fears seem to be realized when Gabriella is chosen, but she
discovers something about the legends she hadn’t known. The woman born with
the mark of the dragon is destined to be his forever—and she was born the
mark.

Poor Gabriella, while she
loves her village and honors its traditions she loves Jason more, how can
she possibly give him up? Yet she may be forced to do so at the next dragon
mate selection, when he chooses a mate from amongst the unwed maidens of
which Gabriella is still one. To make matters worse, the current dragon
Randolph is their longtime nemesis. Naturally this drives
Gabriella's fear even higher. In the novel Dragoness Annmarie Ortega
does an exceptional job of presenting the two stalwart and true lovers,
valiantly upholding their honor even though it is contrary to their
emotional desires.
The concept of a fairytale
within a fairytale is different and unique, allowing the reader to suspend
belief and exist in the fantasy. The scenes between Gabriella and Jason are
so poignant and emotional; they add an extra depth to the story. I love the
interaction between the characters and the way in which the villagers manage
to become an integral part of the story as well. This was a very good story
with just enough twists and turns to keep it unpredictable and entertaining;
I definitely recommend it.
