DON'T LET GO...

SRR GRADE:  A

In Don’t Let Go the theme is love lost and found.  Jordan Bliss, first grade teacher, recovering from a horrible marriage never thought she’d feel love again. But when her eyes fell on Miguel, a Venezuelan orphan, it was love at first site.  The problem – Venezuela was in the throws of a civil war.  Navy SEALs were sent to rescue Jordan from the midst of the fighting, but there was a hitch, Miguel’s adoption wasn’t finalized and so he wasn’t allowed to go with her.

Navy SEAL Solomon McGuire was the reason Jordan had to leave Miguel behind.  He was following orders. She believed him to be a heartless monster, but in reality he was torn up inside for her loss.  Solomon was all too familiar with what it felt like to lose a child – his ex-wife had disappeared with his son five years earlier.

The heartbreak these characters experience is believable, the feelings expressed are ones you’ll recognize as your own.  The pain so real it will bring tears to your eyes.  Marliss Melton doesn’t stop there; she introduces secondary characters that are just as engaging as the main characters. And though this story has a lot going on, between the children, the rescues, Jillian and Rafe’s burgeoning relationship, and the hint of one between Sean and Ellie we never get lost, instead we are drawn even deeper.  This story doesn’t know what a slow moment is.  The chemistry between Jordan and Solomon is thrilling; irresistible for them to ignore and Ms. Melton does an excellent job writing their sensual love scenes.

Ms. Melton has woven a powerful story in Don’t Let Go and her attention to detail is noteworthy. There are plenty of “hold your breath” moments to keep you wondering if everything will turn out OK. Ultimately Don’t Let Go is all about second chances in life and love.  I would suggest you grab this one off the book shelf and Don’t Let Go until you’ve turned the last page.
