Sidney lives a simple life with her cat, Marley while owning her own
business called the Pacific Pet Hotel, where she has been taking care of
animals for the past five years. But one morning Sidney’s life is about to
crumble as a brutal murder has occurred in her town. A young woman has
suddenly gone missing, along with her dog. Sydney ends up find this same dog
she saw on the news at her work. Sidney also has a special gift she keeps
hidden. If she touches a person or animal, she can see visions or images
from that person’s life. She doesn’t like to be touched and will not touch
anyone. But because she has touched the victim’s dog and felt its fear, she
knows she must go to the police.
Sidney comes in contact with Lieutenant Marc Cruz who thinks she is a crack
pot. From the beginning, these two do not hit it off and he believes she is
hiding something, perhaps her part in the murder. But as Marc gets to know
the lonely and vulnerable Sidney, his feelings for this intriguing woman
begins to change. He eventually asks for her help in solving the case
because he believe her psychic abilities may help.
Sidney has enough on her plate with a sister going through a possible
divorce along with being a drug addict and a pesky reporter who won’t leave
her alone. As the sexual tension between Sidney and Marc grows, the killer
figures out that Sidney is helping the police and because of that he will
have to stop her in any way he can, even if that means her own death.
Dangerous to Touch is a perfect title by this taunt romantic thriller
by Jill Sorenson. Sidney is one heroine who is so scarred and very
vulnerable because of her ability to see things no one else can. She has
made herself an outcast from even her own family and you really do feel for
her. Marc on the other hand comes across as a bully in the first few
chapters but slowly you begin to realize he cares about his job and is on
edge because there is a killer on the loose.
Marc and Sidney’s romance builds very slowly and the outcome that leads to
the bedroom is very pleasing. This is not simple attraction between the two
because there is so much in their paths that can keep them apart. There are
also many other characters that are sinister and untrustworthy and you are
not sure if one of them is the killer. But when you find out whom, it is
quite a shock.
For a romance that
has a pretty good suspense and two characters who are not the stereotypical
hero or heroine, I recommend Dangerous to Touch.
