Dorothy "Oro" Carson's grandmother, Lois Phelps, has a
secret, regarding the death of her twin, Dorothy, whom Oro was named for. Up
until now, Oro has never thought to delve into herg grandmother's shadowy
past. Unfortunately for Oro, the past is about to come crashing down upon
her. Lois, claiming it is time to face the past, sends Oro to her family
home in Sleepy Oaks, a small town, stuck in its past, full of little old
gossiping ladies and secrets. Oro decides to investigate the death of her
grandaunt and discovers her family has more than one skeleton in its closet.
Dancing with Dragons captured my attention from page one. Oro is an
extremely likable character as is the man she meets and ultimately falls in
love with, Jonah George. I found myself quickly turning page after page as
Oro's search uncovered more and more secrets and turned deadly. Ms. Vaughn-Lazzar
easily captures the attention with her quaint little town of Sleepy Oaks and
its, sometimes eccentric inhabitants, painting a very clear picture of this
mostly peaceful town. She gives the reader all of the clues to solve the
mystery and creates a wonderful suspense as the investigation proves a
hazard to Oro's health. There is also a component of a religious revival for
Oro as she continues her investigation, that at times beat the reader over
the head but does not detract overly much from the main plot of the novel.
Dancing with Dragons is a novel I would highly recommend to any wanting
a good mystery with a dash of sweet romance.
