girlfriend, even though, she is determined not to let any one get close

Considering
Lily is the very heartwarming story of a young woman's struggle to
rebuild her life after the end of a bad marriage, and the people in her life
who are there to help her along the way. Lily Robinson's friends and
neighbors all want to see her happy and paired off with the local
veterinarian, Dr. Ian O'Neil however, the circumstances of Lily's marriage
and divorce make it difficult for her to easily trust men. As Ian sees it
although he is making some progress in establishing a friendship of sorts
with Lily, for every step he advances forward, she almost immediately takes
two steps back.
Ms. Russell shows
a touching sensitivity in giving the reader glimpses of Lily's former
marriage; not precisely vilifying the ex-husband, but still showing how a
strong capable woman could stay in a bad situation. At times the sheer
poignancy of this story is almost heartrending: Lily wants so much to
overcome the mental barriers holding her back, yet she is just not ready to
move forward. The joy in reading the story comes from Ian, Grace and all of
Lily's friends who support her emotionally no matter how many blocks she
puts up to keep them away. All is not deep and emotional in Considering
Lily, there is quite a bit of humor to balance the spectrum, especially
with Ian's patients and the other assortment of four-legged friends to
lighten the tone. Ultimately, Lily has the ending she believes she deserves;
it is up to the reader to discover if that ending is the one we want her to
have as well.
