Katie Reus’ City of Secrets is set in historic
Saint Augustine, Florida and I couldn’t think of a better place
for mystery, suspense and love than this, the first city settled in the
United States. Ms. Reus works several historical elements into the scenery
and for anyone who has ever visited they’ll feel right at home.
The suspense is palpable and the love story is heartwarming.
Jade has been a widow for over four years and she’s finally ready
to move on. The owner of a small store she is always busy, coupled with
the fact that she is not now nor never was a “bar hopper”
she is at a loss on how to start dating again. Jade’s family decides
to help but not before reminding her that maybe the love she’s seeking
has been in front of her all along. When Jade inadvertently gets in the
middle of an undercover DEA investigation complete with drugs, lethal
gas and dirty agents she puts her life in jeopardy.
David is Jade’s deceased husband’s best friend and over the
years has become hers. He has loved her since the moment he laid eyes
on her five years before and has waited patiently for her to decide she’s
ready to live again. When David returns from a business trip to find Jade
heading out for her first date he knows it is time to put up or shut up.
Being an ex-Navy Seal and ex-U.S. Marshall he is not one to back down.
Now all he has to figure out is how to win Jade over to his way of thinking
and keep her safe from the mess she’s in the middle of.
City of Secrets is filled with more than enough suspense
to keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn’t put this book down
and read it in one sitting. The characters are engaging and easy to fall
in love with. The romantic tension is extremely well written and you’ll
be waiting with bated breath for these two to finally have their steamy
scene – trust me you won’t be disappointed either. I would
love to see David standing outside my door waiting to come in! City
of Secrets should definitely be on your “to be read”
shelf if it isn’t already!
