Synopsis:
Marry or hang! For Sir
Walter Scott, caught stealing back his own cattle from his thieving
neighbor, death is almost preferable to wedding his captor’s eldest
daughter. Yet to save his loyal men, Wat trades the hangman’s noose for a
woman he barely knows, Lady Margaret Murray—reputed to be one of the
homeliest women in the Borders. For Meg, marriage means the promise of a
life she thought beyond her grasp. She offers herself unreservedly to this
proud man, stirring his desire with her innocence and a body he finds hard
to resist…
But their union has
also made Meg a pawn in the endless violence between England and Scotland.
Soon, with treachery at every turn, Meg must choose between standing up to
her unscrupulous brothers…or betraying the husband with whom she is falling
deeply, passionately—and dangerously—in love.

Amanda Scott is one of
those authors that you automatically know is going to write a great a book.
Her new release, Border Wedding, is just that – great! It is the
first book in her new trilogy; he second book. Border Lass, cannot be
released fast enough!
Sir Walter Scott (Wat) is one of my new favorite heroes. We find him in a
precarious situation at the beginning of the story. He and his men were
caught by Sir Murray’s men trying to steal back the cattle that were stolen
from him. It’s either watch his men hang and then he himself hangs or
marry the oldest of Sir Murray’s daughters, Lady Margaret (Meg). Unwilling
to have his men killed, he agrees to marry Meg and thus agreeing to help Sir
Murray if any problem should arise.
Meg has no say in whether or not she wants to marry Wat. She does know that
she doesn’t want to witness their possible hangings if he doesn’t agree to
the marriage. When all is settle between Wat and her father, she prepares
to go back to Wat’s lands with her sister, Amalie, in tow.
The blossoming relationship between Wat and Meg really kept the pages
turning for me. It was heartwarming to see Wat try to take his wedding vows
seriously and try to honor and protect Meg all the while trying to suppress
the desire growing in him for her. Meg is a wonderful heroine who turns out
to be brave, strong and very loving. Even her sister, Amalie, turns out to
be a interesting secondary character and one that plays an important role
later in this story.
Aside from the beautiful romance there is danger brewing all around them. Wat
must try to keep Meg and Amalie safe while trying to fight a raging battle
between England and Scotland. His loyalties are stretched and the love he
harbors for his wife is deepening each day. Border Wedding is a
truly wonderful historical romance!
Amanda Scott did it again. Border Wedding is another fantastic book
and I highly recommend it. I cannot wait to read Amalie’s story in her next
book, Border Lass.
