Reading a Zenobia Renquist
novel is a sure to guarantee to a different and unique experience, and A
Valentine's Gift for Tori is not a disappointment. As always, Ms.
Renquist does not give her readers the typical romance, with boy meets girl
and the couple living happily ever after. In this story, Tori decides she
wants a boyfriend to spice up her life for Valentine's Day rather than the
traditional candy or flowers. Surprisingly, her husband, Christian, agrees
with one stipulation – he must be allowed to watch their encounters, and
they are depicted in glorious detail. Unfortunately, the couple discovers
finding a third in this happy little threesome is not as easy as they had
hoped.
Ms. Renquist illustrates
both sensitivity and humor when showing how Tori and Christian handle the
infidelity question when raised by their children, allowing the reader to
see a whole new way to broach such a delicate subject. Ultimately, Tori does
find a suitable candidate, one upon whom the entire family can agree, which
may itself bring about its own set of problems. A Valentine's Gift for
Tori is full of meaningful messages the reader can both analyze and
dissemble as practical lessons for everyday life, or they can simply accept
the book at face value for its entertainment quotient. Regardless, of what
each person takes away from the story, they will definitely take away hours
of enjoyment.
