Synopsis:

Spoiled, aimless party-girl Zara Benjamin has never had to work a day in her life. At twenty-eight, she's just discovered something she wants as much as her best friend since college, the unattainable Quincy Powers. But when an elevator door opens minus the car, all these hopes and dreams are forever dashed…or are they?

Successful financial whiz Quincy Powers made his fortune on Wall Street before his thirtieth birthday and left the rat race behind before the stress of trading could claim his sanity. Instead of the game keeping him awake, however, he now has the horrible sound of his best friend's screams to haunt his nights.

Until two angels intervene and send Zara on a mission in the body of her twin brother, Zack Benjamin...

SRR GRADE:  C+

Imagine you are in love with your best friend but he’s gay and in love with your twin brother.  Now imagine you die and are sent back to inhabit the body of your twin with the instructions that you have two weeks to fulfill your desire.  Zara Benjamin experiences exactly that and given the fact that her twin, Zack, is in love with her best friend Quincy, she is more than willing to use her brother to fulfill her desire.

Zack and the Dark Shaft is a pleasant read, though the story is somewhat underdeveloped and the ending comes a little too quickly.  Zack is extremely likable, as is the object of both twins’ desire, Quincy.  Zara, herself is not as easy to like and her final realizations about herself come a little too quickly.  The angels who oversee Zara’s journey are somewhat heavy-handed but amusing in their “good cop/bad cop” roles.

While I wouldn’t recommend this book to the top of your reading pile, I did enjoy the over all story and the characters.
