| SRR:
Hi Devyn and welcome to Simply Romance Reviews. Thank you so much for
letting us interview you. I have to ask you about your tattoo. It’s
really beautiful. Can you tell us about it? |
| Devyn Quinn:
The tattoo is
based on my “Eternity” books, The Keeper of Eternity and
The Price of Eternity. Many moons ago when I was first creating
the series the character of Morgan Saint-Evanston and his world inspired me
so deeply that I felt compelled to have the tattoo done. And since I wanted
my whole back done, I asked the artist to read the book and create his
interpretation of what I had written. I had no idea what he’d done until it
was finished. As I’ve had that tattoo for going on 20 years, I’d say it’s
there to stay. And I’m getting another on my arm just as soon as I can find
the time, so I am definitely a tattooed lady! |

|
SRR: What
inspired you to become a writer? |
| Devyn Quinn:
Since learning to read, I have always felt a special kinship with and to the
written word. Like most people I live an extremely ordinary life. Reading
has always been an escape from the drag of day to day living. You can escape
to a while new world simply by opening a book. At the end of my day I make
it a point to read a book or magazine, even if it’s only a few pages at a
time. |

|
SRR:
Can you give us a sneak peek into your own personal library? |
| Devyn Quinn: My
own library has been pared down to very little because of space limitations,
but some special hardcover volumes I’ve kept, such as Norman Mailer’s
biography of Marilyn Monroe, a first edition of the Phantom of the Opera
playbook, along with some beautiful books on Ireland and Celtic history. And
of course my beloved gothics!! I will not part with my volumes of the
original Dark Shadows paperback novels, nor of Jeff Rice’s Night Stalker and
Night Strangler books, which inspired The Night Stalker television series in
the 70’s. The paperbacks are yellowed with age now and wrapped to preserve
them. Every now and again I’ll take one down and reread it just to
rediscover why I loved the genre so much. |
| |
|
SRR:
Was there one particular author that influenced your writing? |
| Devyn Quinn: Stephen
King has always been a favorite of mine and probably the writer I tried the
most to imitate when I began attempting to write my first book. OF course
trying that was a dismal failure. You simply can’t mimic another writer’s
style. You have to find your own voice or find something else to do. |

|
SRR:
Congratulations on your four Kensington releases this year. You must be so
excited! |
| Devyn Quinn: I’m
still a little bit stunned that the Kensington schedule fell into place that
way. It was quite a surprise to learn the release dates would give me 4
books out this year, two anthologies and two single titles. |
| |
|
SRR: Can
you tell us a little about each release? |
| |
|
Eros Island |
| Devyn Quinn: This
is an anthology with Lucinda Betts and the late Dawn Thompson. The theme was
ancient legends or lore. The authors were not necessarily trapped in the
usual Greek or Roman legends, but could use whatever fascinated them
personally. Mine happened to be an update on Pygmalion, a story I have
always liked and thought would make a good addition to the anthology.
Fortunately my editor agreed, and so “Thunderstruck” was included. In that
story, a female sculptor created a life-sized marble statue of Herakles that
comes to life during a thunderstorm. As the artist has been hovering on the
edge of a nervous breakdown, she’s not sure he’s real or just a part of her
fevered imagination! |

Sins of the Night |
| Devyn Quinn:
This is the
second in my Kith and Kynn series, the first title being Sins
of the Flesh. This one takes up 6 months where the first one left
off. We find Devon and Rachel trying to settle into married life as they
await the birth of their twins—a rarity among the Kynn. But there’s a shadow
in Devon’s past, a threat toward his wife and children that must be stopped
at any cost. How that’s resolved, I won’t tell, but I will mention that
Morgan Saint-Evanston from the “Eternity” series does have a nice cameo in
this book, and gets to wreak a little bit of his own special havoc. |

|
Trio Anthology |
| Devyn Quinn: This
Anthology will be out in late May, I believe, and I join authors PF Kozak
and Jane Ledger in addressing the theme of “threesomes”. “No Strings
Attached” was a rather fun story to write as I decided to redo the
Cinderella story. Except in my version the main female character of Lara
Green is a stripper in a Nevada brothel. Her hard and fast rule is not to
barter sex for money… That is until a mysterious man from her past makes her
a deal she can’t refuse— offering her one million dollars to be a sex slave
for himself and his best friend. I won’t say how this threesome turns out,
except to say that it’s got a few surprises in store for the readers! |

Embracing Midnight |
| Devyn Quinn: Embracing
Midnight is the tentative first book in a new series that will
introduce a species of alien vampire called the “Niviane Idesha”. I’ll share
the synopsis since I do so love the premise of this exciting book! |
|
Sex as a weapon?
That was something undercover agent Callie Whitten never thought she'd
use, until Iollan Drake crossed her path. A brooding outlaw with smoky hair
and copper eyes, his exotic accent and heated touch promise a lot of
pleasure.
Dangerous secrets loom as Callie discovers that her not-so-typical
investigation into a sex trafficking ring has some perilous twists. One of
the Bureau's most wanted, Drake’s a man with a dark secret—something that
could get them both killed once Callie stumbles onto the truth. A truth that
not only puts her life in jeopardy but also threatens the security of the
free world...
The A51-ASD, a top-secret division of the Bureau, has proof of aliens
among the civilian population. Iollan Drake is a ‘living’ vampire, part of a
subculture of humans who have merged with an alien species called the
Niviane Idesha. Restructured through a genetic mutation, the vampires are
gifted with enhanced speed, incredible stamina and the ability to shift
energy, and the government has become increasingly horrified of their
growing legion. Those hosting the alien symbiont are treated as outcasts,
subjected to inhumane tests and put into quarantine.
When Drake breaks the shell of secrecy around his people and tells Callie
about his secret life, her world is spun terrifyingly sideways: She
discovers a nefarious plan involving the creations of yet a third species:
alien-human hybrids with all the strengths of the aliens and none of their
weaknesses. Events turn more harrowing when Callie discovers she may be
pregnant. As one of the few sires able to reproduce, Iollan’s life is in
danger, and Callie is in a fight for her own life, and that of her unborn
child.
Forced to rely on each other to stay alive, neither Callie nor Drake can
resist the passion sizzling between them. When Drake is captured and almost
killed, Callie becomes a rogue warrior bent on protecting her new
lover—seeking her revenge on the agency that betrayed them both.

SRR: You
tagged your writing as “gothic-erotica”; can you explain what that means? |
| Devyn Quinn: Goth-erotica
is a term I coined to describe my type of writing, which mixes the normal
and the paranormal, the everyday with the extraterrestrial. My characters
are not shiny happy people, but people who are deeply burdened with life’s
trials and traumas. Their lives are not perfect by any means. They are drug
addicts, alcoholics, mentally ill, struggling to pay bills and make ends
meet. Just like everyone else in this world.
The strength of my
characters is in their ability not only to overcome the challenges of their
personal lives, but to triumph against the circumstances they find
themselves thrust, sometimes unwillingly, into. Usually this menace is of
supernatural origins. As for the erotic, well, there is a lot of sex in my
books, LOL! |
| |
|
SRR: Let’s
talk about your characters. How do you develop them and do they ever take
over your story? |
| Devyn Quinn:
Oh, yeah. What I
think I might write and what the characters tell me to write are two
different things. As their stories come out, I learn more about these
characters inhabiting the stage in my mind. Sometimes I have to take back
the reigns and put a stop to some of the more outrageous behavior, though!
|
| |
|
SRR:
What do you do when you’re not writing? |
| Devyn Quinn: I
do what everyone else does. Work a job, keep up with family, home and pets
and try to get by day to day. I can truly say that my life isn’t glamorous
in the least! My biggest thrill is getting to rent movies a couple of time a
week or go to Wal-Mart for groceries! |

|
SRR: Thank
you again for letting us interview you, before we finish, is there anything
you would like your readers to know? |
| Devyn Quinn:
